after driving back from waco, we walked across from our hotel to eat.

we were starving and it was super yummy.

after dinner, we walked around downtown for a while.  we thought we would see why 6th street was such a big deal.  we quickly realized that we were too old for that scene and that was only one of the million reasons that we were not interested in hanging out there!  we did see the driskill on our little journey.  that was about the only thing i took of pic of because...well, my eyes and most of those images were burned into my memory anyway.

the next morning, we just hung out at zilker park.

then, the moment john had been waiting for...we ate lunch at la barbecue food truck.

but, not before standing in line for over an hour.  i do have to admit that it was worth the wait.  it was the best meal that we had in austin and maybe, even, in ever.  we were stuffed!!!

that afternoon, john had to check in at the ap conference and i hung out at the hotel trying to decide what we should do next.  that's when i realized there was a trader joe's just around the corner.  yes, i know that whole foods flagship store was also just around the corner, but i'd never been to trader joe's and i was interested.  ummm, wow!!!  loved it and every single thing that we bought there!

after a little grocery shopping/browsing at the grocery store, we played a round of peter pan mini golf where we decided to just embrace the awkwardness of all the selfies that we had been attempting throughout the week.  basically, we stink at taking selfies.  p-u stink!

but, we had fun.  and, selfies might not be the only thing that i stink at.

after getting ku-illed in mini golf, we ate breakfast tacos for dinner and yum, again!

the next day, john went to the conference and i did this.

it was fabulous!

later in the afternoon, we visited the graffiti park at castle hills.

it was crazy.  so much talent and so many empty cans of spray paint.

after another delicious dinner, we went to moojo.

i will dream of this amazing ice cream sandwich for years to come.  i almost cried when i finished it because it was all gone.  i had the snickerdoodle-moo, salted caramel pretzel ice cream between two homemade snickerdoodle cookies.  mmmmm!!!!

the next morning, while john was at the conference, i packed up our stuff because we had a plane to catch that afternoon and we had some kids to see!

we grabbed a late lunch at home slice because, well, john was there and pizza.

we really had a great time together and our suitcases weren't the only things that came back home stuffed!!!

john was going to the ap conference in austin, so i tagged along too and we flew down a couple of days early.  thanks to all the grandparents for watching our kiddos so we could get away alone for a few days!

once we landed, we rented the smallest (ahem, cheapest) car ever.  it gave us lots of good laughs, but it came in super handy too.  who knew austin had such tiny parking spaces?!?

we were ready to explore this weird city!!!

we hung out on south congress most of the day...eating and visiting lots of interesting shops.

john was super happy when he found home slice pizza because pizza, of course!

the name of this shop definitely defines it very well...strange stuff.

we ate dinner at magnolia cafe and ate some tex mex.

we ended the night at the congress avenue bridge with hundreds of other people to watch the one and a half million bats emerge at sunset.  weird.

the next morning, we ate a yummy breakfast at jo's before heading to waco.

i was kind of super excited to visit magnolia market!  joanna has been one my favorite designers for years and then fixer upper happened and so, let's just say...super excited!!!  i spent about 30 minutes in awe of the stuff and all the people.  then, i was able to focus on the actual details and i was like...all the heart eyes!!!  finally, i had to force myself to make some decisions.  what to buy?  what would i regret leaving behind?  what all could i actually fit in the car and/or suitcase?  what could my wallet afford?  hard decisions, people.

i left one happy girl.  and john was great!  next, we took a little fixer upper tour.  we went to harp designs and clint was working!  we visited a few antique shops and checked out the silos before heading back to austin.
