road trip

>>>>>>>>>>warning: photo overload<<<<<<<<<<

Over Labor Day weekend, we decided that we needed to just get away for awhile and we took a random road trip to Jackson, Mississippi.

We visited the Children's Museum and had a lot of fun!!!

milking cows

working on cars

building houses

logging

it took serious concentration to work this heavy machinery

sailing river boats

fishing for catfish

being sassy

creating mosaics

sliding into a potty

jumping

building

and, playing giant scrabble

After all that fun, we ate dinner at Sal & Mookie's!

We ate yummy pizza.

Then, we had ice cream sundaes for dessert.  The boys split a s'mores sundae!

The girls shared a turtle sundae...mmm!!!

The next day, we just swam a lot!!!

We had the pool all to ourselves, most of the day!

Carter fell asleep on the way to dinner.  I just held him.  I never get to do that anymore.

After dinner, we went to Krispy Kreme for dessert.  We watched them make donuts for a long time.  We ate some too!!!

Before we checked out of the hotel the next morning, we swam a little more.

Road trippin' has become our specialty this summer.

ten years and a getaway

ten years.  we've been married for ten years. it's kind of crazy...in some ways, it feels like forever.  like there was never a life before.  in other ways, it feels like time has gone by so fast.  it feels like just the other day that it was just us...young(er) and eating dinner on the couch and watching tv.  ten years.  a decade.

john had a conference in little rock and i (just i) went with him.  now, nothing against little rock but, it's not a very exciting place.  there are about a thousand different cities that i would have rather been visiting, but little rock was where we were at and it was pretty awesome.

it was pretty awesome because john and i were together and alone.  we haven't been able to complete an entire conversation in like the past 6 years.  we got to in little rock.  we also got to eat a meal at a restaurant without getting up to take someone to the potty.

each morning, i had to decide if i wanted to read in bed, read by the pool, blog, watch a movie (or two), or roll over and go back to sleep.  it was wonderful to be "stuck" in a hotel room with "nothing" to do.  there was no guilt.  it was just restful and freeing to not have to check things off my to do list or take care of my children for a few days.

i read an entire book.  in one day.  i never do that.  i usually read one book in an entire summer.  i also went shoe shopping not at target.

our bed was huge and super comfortable and huge.

helloooo over there.

i even started a second book.  i'm going to finish it.  i'm going to finish it.  i'm going to finish it.

yum!  i ate doughnuts in bed.

we went to the river walk and hung out there for a little while.  we played and explored and talked.

i also went to a movie.  alone.  i was literally alone.  i worried for a minute that i would choke on popcorn and no one would be there to save me.

i didn't choke.  but, after sitting in traffic on the way home, i was wishing i had of.  jay kay.  but, we were ready to be home and see our kiddos.

we are going to do this again.  it was so wonderful to take time away from our kids and spend it with just each other without any distractions.  i totally recommend getting away.  do it.  now.

instaFriday

so...apparently, i took a 3 week blogging break.  i guess that it was well needed because i didn't even realize that it had been so long!  and, now i've got lots of pics to share!!!

grace and carter helped clean the house before their party.  so very helpful. ha!

she got a sleep mask for her birthday...it must work great!

i sat down for a few minutes and all of a sudden i was babysitting 3 more kids!  and apparently, they were up all night crying.  oh my!

we did a snowman craft on our day off!

if carter was a snowman at night, he would "play and watch and eat breakfast and eat supper and eat lunch and eat dinner."

if grace was a snowman at night, she would "gowe sleding and make snow ajulse."

we celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing as 100 year olds!

and we had a granny race down the hall!

me and my amazing student teacher

it's spirit week {again!} at grace's school!
day one...wacky tacky day

you know...just snuggling while watching the grizzlies play.

all of us went to see frozen and this was carter's first movie.  thank goodness for popcorn!

we celebrated john's birthday!!!

his prayers are seriously one of my favorite things ever..."gank you for god. gank you for jesus.  gank you for polka dots and slushies. gank you for my birthday.  gank you for puppies and rabbits and cows and all the animals.  gank you for my plate...in jesus' name, amen."

day two...blast from the past

i had a headache so, we did this because disney junior is not as loud as they are!

day three...aluminum foil/duct tape day

day four...western day

carter had to get in on all the action!

happy friday!
